Those who produce and dispense psychiatric drugs to our children might want to consider the impact of nutrition on the well-being of kids before they immerse them in dangerous drugs.
Oh, and that goes for everyone, not just kids.
I received an email today about an incident in which The Way to Happiness booklets appeared to save some lives and more. Here is the email in its entirety:
Here's a great quote from L. Ron Hubbard, the author of The Way to Happiness, about the effects morals (and their lack of) can have on our children:
"Whatever one's affection for the child, remember that the child cannot survive well in the long run if he or she does not have his or her feet put on the way to survival. It will be no accident if the child goes wrong: the contemporary society is tailor-made for a child's failure.
"It will help enormously if you obtain a child's understanding of and agreement to follow the precepts contained in this book."
—L. Ron Hubbard

Throw in a thoroughly arrogant Teachers' Union more interested in self-preservation and power than the well-being and education of our kids, and you've got a perfect storm that IS the current state of public school education in the U.S.
Thankfully, real solutions exist and are being implemented throughout the world. Check out what can be done here.
Yes, this is a cartoon, but the chap makes the point that more and more Americans are realizing every day: These mental disorders are made up by a group of people who have NO scientific or medical evidence to confirm their invented disorders.
And this group (let's call them psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies) are making an enormous amount of money putting and keeping kids (and adults) on medications that have horrific side effects and do NOT, repeat do NOT address the cause of the problem.
Of course you do know that a psychiatrist IS a medical doctor. You did know that, right? How many psychiatrists have done blood work on their patients — PRIOR to putting their patients on heavy medication — to determine if there is some deficiency that needs addressing?
How many psychiatrists have checked for allergies — PRIOR to putting their patients on heavy medication — to see if this is a factor?
How many psychiatrists have checked for hormonal imbalances — PRIOR to putting their patients on heavy medication — to see if this is a factor?
Are their nutritional deficiencies? These can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including emotional ones. Are psychiatrists asking about these?
Ever see someone who is feeling down and out come right out of it after getting going with an exercise program? Are psychiatrists asking about this area as a possible solution?
Look, I'm not saying every psychiatrist is a bad apple. See my post on how I view the difference between Scientology and psychiarty.
But I am saying MANY of them are lazy with their approach to mental health through continual medication. The medication can be very harmful and potentially lethal. Recall a commercial for one of the psychotropic drugs and you'll remember that virtually half of the commercial's time is spent warning you of the myriad adverse side effects that can (and often do) occur.

When rap songs come out against the crimes of Big Pharma, you know the tide is turning...
I watched the new documentary, "Waiting For Superman" last nite. It was a compelling film about some of the factors behind the continued erosion in American education. You want to make changes in the education scene here, you have to go through a monolithic structure, go up against teacher unions, teacher contracts, teachers who may be utterly abysmal teachers but because they have "tenure," they can't be dealt with properly...the list goes on and on.
There are a myriad of problems associated with getting our children taught properly. Watch this next video and you'll see a technology that has been quietly solving many of these problems. Thousands of teachers and millions of students world wide are using this technology with overwhelming success.
The documentary "Waitinig for Superman" did shed light on why this technology has not yet been embraced by the public school systems here in the U.S. the way it has overseas.
Let's say a group of people (we'll call them teachers' unions) are raking in millions of dollars to fix a bad situation that does NOT improve despite the constant infusion of money. In actuality, the situation continues to deterioriate. Yet more and more money streams in. Then a technology presents itself that actually works and costs VERY little to implement. Hmm. You just might be concerned about losing that river of money coming in.
Money, power, control...the usual suspects.
But things are changing. More and more teachers and parents are seeing that their hands are tied by the very people supposedly representing them. And meanwhile the technology presented in this video continues to march forward creating one success after another.
Truth always makes its way to the light of day.

To quote Dr. Joseph Mecola from his web site:
"Prescriptions for Ritalin are up 600 percent this decade. If the current rate of increase continues, some 8 million American schoolchildren will be on the drug next year. The United States uses five times more Ritalin than the rest of the world COMBINED."
It almost seems like a race against time. The major contestants in this race:
1) The psychiatric profession and the pharmaceutical companies intent on producing "customers" for life andDid you know that Ritalin and cocaine share virtually the same properties? Did you know the list of DOCUMENTED side effects for this drug include aggression, hallucinations and suicidal thoughts?
2) You, me, other parents, educators and the general public who are finding out every day about the dangers of drugging our country's children.
There are so many other factors involved with the child who gets quickly shunted over to the psychiatric/pharmaceutic solution. What about his diet? Is he getting adequate nutrition? Lack of certain nutrients cause symptoms identical to those a misguided psychiatrist will quickly label as "ADD" or "ADHD."
Does the child have allergies? These also can produce oddly similar symptoms.
Oh, did I mention nutritional deficiencies and allergies are treatable? With a bit of care and common sense these can be rectified in your child. And guess what? You DIDN'T HAVE TO DRUG THE CHILD.
Here's a chilling fact: Some schools get kickbacks for labeling children. A financial incentive for labeling children who could then end up on drugs. I understand that schools have financial pressures, but this is NOT one of the ways to relieve that pressure.
So if you are being pressured to put your child on Ritalin or other psychiatric drugs, do your child the biggest service you could possibly do and get informed first. Don't push a cocaine-like stimulant into your child's brain because someone believes it will help.

I'm at one of my favorite places: the cafe at Barnes and Nobles. It gives me a chance to get out of the office, sip a cool one and observe the most incredible thing happening on this earth: people.
I'm surprised by a short exchange between what appears to be a daughter and her mother (very good resemblance). The daughter is sitting at a table underlining some items in her book when her mom walks up to the table and timidly stretches over to say something to her. The daughter does not look up, says something short and the mom fearfully kicks back and withdraws.
I'm a bit saddened on two scores. Saddened for the mom who is afraid of someone very important to her. Saddened for the child who has lost the glow of respect for one's parents.
Now I may have misperceived this exchange. It's possible these two were having an off moment and normally they have a great relationship with each other. Regardless of the correctness of my observartion, I'm reminded of how often kids give their parents a hard time: the 8 year old in the grocery store screaming at the mom to buy him something RIGHT NOW; the ten year old who curses at the parents who won't let him go out to play after dark; the teen who defies her parents guidance and gets into trouble.
Before I go any further, I will confess that growing up, I was guilty of all of the above and then some. I could blog every day for the next six months listing out one thing after another that caused my parents to age prematurely.
Back in the day I wish I had read and taken to heart the booklet known as "The Way to Happiness." If I had, my life growing up would've been quite different and I would've spared both of my parents considerable grief.
The Way to Happiness is an astounding booklet. It is a common sense guide to a happier, more successful life. Translated into 96 different languages, it has helped people the world over.
If you're a parent, get yourself a copy of The Way to Happiness Activity Book. I highly recommend that.
There is even a Way to Happiness eBook that costs $5 for a dozen copies.
The Way to Happiness is simple and powerful.
